…Says APC Has no Fear of Merger in 2027
The Chairman of the North Eastern Cooperatives Stakeholders Forum, Barrister Abdullahi Jalo, has defended Nigeria’s democratic system, emphasizing its role in fostering infrastructural development and human capital growth across the country.
Jalo made the statement while countering remarks by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who recently claimed that democracy has not yielded positive development in Africa.
He expressed surprise at Obasanjo’s comments, noting that the former president himself oversaw significant infrastructural progress during his tenure from 1999 to 2007.
Highlighting the impact of democracy in Nigeria, Jalo pointed to various physical infrastructure projects and investments in human capital that have been achieved under democratic governance.
In a separate issue, Jalo dismissed rumors of a rift between Vice President Kashim Shettima and certain figures within the presidency, describing such reports as baseless.
He urged the Tinubu-led administration to recognize the North East’s crucial role in bringing the government to power and ensure the region is adequately represented in political appointments.
Jalo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s security efforts in the North East, stating that military operations have weakened Boko Haram insurgents, even dislodging them from their strongholds like the Sambisa Forest, also plans are in the pipeline with the use of modern technology in fighting bandits and kidnappers leading to increased peace and stability in the region.
Addressing the recent movement of some politicians to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, Jalo downplayed the potential impact.
He argued that defectors would struggle to build strong party structures capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress, the ruling party has no fear in what so ever the opposition are planning as they have the masses support.
Additionally, he dismissed reports alleging a political altercation involving Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya at an airplane, calling it fake news spread by political opponents to tarnish the governor’s image.
Jalo urged Nigerians to remain focused on national development and avoid being misled by political misinformation.
