At least 400 pregnant women in Gombe Local Government have received free maternal and delivery kits as part of efforts to promote safe motherhood and reduce maternal and infant mortality.

The distribution exercise, held at the Gombe Township Maternity, was launched by the council chairman, Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna (Wakilin Arewan Gombe).

Haruna explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s directive to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the state.

He said “these kits, which contain essential supplies, are designed to support women throughout pregnancy and ensure safer childbirth”.

The council chairman also unveiled a campaign to curb maternal and child deaths, directing the local health department to provide free blood screenings for expectant mothers in all maternity centres.

He noted that “early detection of complications would help safeguard life and health of both mothers and babies”.

Haruna commended Governor Yahaya for prioritising maternal and child health,.

Beneficiaries and residents described the initiative as timely, adding that it would ease financial pressure on families and improve overall wellbeing.
