The Population Services International (PSI), in partnership with the Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MH-NOW) Project, has identified three local government areas in Bauchi State to benefit from this year’s advocacy on effective education and support for adolescent girls and young women during menstruation.
In an interview with our correspondent, at the end of a two-day workshop on State Level Menstrual Health Training for Media, the Program Officer of Menstrual Health and Hygiene, Miss Gloria Obeth, said the rationale behind selecting the three LGAs is to equip and empower adolescent girls and young women, particularly those living in rural communities, with knowledge on how to use sanitary pads during menstruation period.
The three beneficiary LGAs are Bauchi, Misau, and Katagum Local Governments respectively.
Miss Gloria used the medium to appreciate the commitment of journalists in Bauchi State for enlightening adolescent girls and women on the significance of menstrual health and hygiene during and after the menstruation cycle.
In their contributory remarks,The Gender Desk Officer of Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Hadiza Isah Ahmad, and resource person Hajiya Zuwaira Baba commended the effort of Population Services International (PSI) and Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MH-NOW), for choosing Bauchi State to host their media engagement meeting.
They promised to support the campaign effectively towards achieving the desired objectives.
Speaking on behalf of the selected journalists who participated in the two-day training, Mrs. Bulak Afsa of the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA Bauchi, thanked PSI and MH-NOW Project for giving them the opportunity to participate in the State Level Menstrual Health Training for Media.
She promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by educating adolescent girls and women on menstrual health and hygiene.
