The Bauchi State Council of Emirs has called for more commitments in the Enrollment Drive Campaign (EDC) towards returning the remaining figure of six hundred and eighty thousand Out of School Children back to schools across the state.
Chairman of the council who doubles as Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu made the disclosure at a one day State Level Consultative Meeting On the 2024/2025 Enrollment Drive and Back To School Campaign, organised by State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with UNICEF Bauchi Field Office and Council of Chiefs that took place at the Emir’s Place, Bauchi.
He observed that the traditional institutions, religious leaders and education stakeholders are closer to the people, hence the need for them to contribute their wisdoms in the Enrollment Drive Campaign (EDC) towards complimenting Governor Bala Abdulkadir’s determination at improving the lost glory of education standard in the state.
In their separate remarks, The Emir of Dass Alh. Usman Bilyaminu Othman and his counterpart of Misau Alh Ahmad Sulaiman called for close monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning system in all the public schools across the state, advocating for communities to take ownership of schools infrastructure and other facilities against vandalization.
Speaking Earlier, The Executive Chairman SUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri promised to continue to work as a team with traditional institution in order to champion the education system in both rural and urban settlements.
Adamu Duguri reaffirmed that education and security deteriorated when the traditional leaders were relegated to the background, saying that the meeting will provide permanent solutions when traditional institution take proactive measure on Enrollment Drive and Back To School Campaign in their various jurisdiction.
In a remark, the chief officer UNICEF Bauchi Field Office Dr. Nuzhat Rafique advised traditional institutions to advocate for the implemention and rollout of the State Child Protection Law 2023, Increasing investment in education from the current budgetary allocation of 16% to 20% for effective teaching and learning effectively.
She used the medium to appreciate the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad of the state for doing everything possible to strengthen the basic education system by building Mega Schools and declared state of emergency in the education sector.
