A Foreign-Based Journalist and Former Managing Director of Tambari TV, Mr Ibrahim Sani Shawai, has commended the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, for his dedicated efforts in ensuring the establishment of the North West Development Commission (NWDC).

In a statement released on Thursday, Mr Shawai praised Senator Jibrin for his relentless commitment to the development of the North West region. He highlighted the importance of the NWDC in addressing the various socio-economic challenges facing the region and expressed confidence in the Senator’s ability to steer the commission towards success.

He said, “Barau Jibrin, by his sheer commitment to the course of sponsoring the bill and midwiving the legislative processes towards the realisation of the commission, showed his love for the people and good intentions to the development of the region”.

Mr Shawai, known for his insightful reporting and expert analysis on Nigerian affairs, emphasized the significance of the NWDC in fostering growth and prosperity in the North West region. He said, “By this act, the NWDC will be able to bring a huge sigh of relief to residents of North-West, through transforming the region into a hub of agricultural, economic, and industrial excellence and ensure a prosperous future for the people”.

However, he added that the task before the newly established commission is not small, according to him, that is in view of the impact of insecurity, youth unemployment, high index of poverty rate on the region and the need to pull resources together to rebuild the infrastructure and hopes of those hit by the impacts in the states of the region. “But with capable hands at the helm in the person Prof Shehu Ma’aji, there is no doubt that NWDC under his leadership will get the job well done,” Shawai stated.

“NWDC has a huge role to play in transforming the region through initiatives that will target key sectors where the region’s comparative advantage lies towards changing the narrative for the people of the North-West.

To achieve this, the commission should focus on initiatives that promote economic growth, social and industrial development, and infrastructure improvement as well as creating job opportunities,” he added.
