In a bid to improve the lives of adolescent girls during menstrual cycles, the Population Services International (PSI) in collaboration with Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MH-NOW) has organized a two-day training for selected journalists in Bauchi State.

The training aims to equip journalists with the skills to effectively educate and support adolescent girls and young women on menstrual health and hygiene.

Speaking with journalists during the workshop, The Program Officer of the Menstrual Health and Hygiene Project, Miss Gloria Obeth, stated that the project is implemented in seven states in Nigeria which include Bauchi, Sokoto, Kano, Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.

She revealed that PSI has sponsored the Menstrual Health and Hygiene Project for a period of two years.

Miss Obeth also explained that the rationale behind involving journalists in the training is to create awareness and access to menstrual products and to educate the public on how to manage menstruation for girls and women in the state and Nigeria at large.

Earlier in her presentation, the resource person, Mrs. Zuwaira Baba, emphasized the importance of parents and guardians educating their children on menstruation early towards overcoming the issues of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

She noted that “Adolescent girls and women face numerous challenges from their communities, hence the need for everyone to contribute towards addressing these issues”.

The training, which took place at Chartwell Hotel in Bauchi, drew journalists from various media houses, including Bauchi Radio Cooperation BRC, Albarka Radio, Channels TV, Leadership, Social Media Influencers, NTA, Jewel Times, and Daily Trust, amongst others.
