Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on the people of Kamo Community in Kaltungo Local Government Area not to relent in upholding their customs, values and traditions in the interest of upcoming generations.
According to a press statement signed and made available to Jewel Times by the Information Officer SSG’s Office Joshua Ɗanmalam, the Governor stated this while speaking at the 13th Kamo Annual Cultural Festival on Saturday.
Represented by the Secretary to Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor said his administration places great emphasis on culture and traditions hence the inauguration of a committee on museum and monuments.
He said the committee is saddled with the responsibility to unraveling and preserving historical sites and monuments that are directly linked to the cultural evolution and experiences of the people.
The SSG explained that the Governor Inuwa Yahaya administration is firmly committed to the provision of necessary data that will guarantee infrastructural expansion and economic development for shared prosperity.
On the recent happenings in the country especially rampant cases petroleum tanker explosions, Governor Yahaya warned citizens to remain vigilant saying ” Should their be any incident of petroleum tanker mishap people are advised to distance themselves from the scene for safety”
Speaking further Governor Yahaya stressed the need for unity and peaceful co- existence calling on the people of Kamo land to take advantage of vast arable land to earn decent leaving through economic prosperity, warning them against indiscriminate sale of land.
In a remark the chairman Kaltungo local government Dr. Iliya Suleiman called on Kamo community in diaspora to come home and contribute in developing the area.
Suleiman further reiterated his commitment to equal treatment of all people of the Local Government in respective of tribe.
Earlier speaking the chairman of Kamo Community Development Association and Commissioner of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Dr Barnabas Malle traced the historical antecedent of Kamo people emphasizing that people of Kamo are peace loving and mostly famers.
He said the cultural event is aimed at showcasing the rich culture of Kamo people to the winder world.
In their good will messages the Mai Kaltungo, Sale Muhammadu represented by the House of Assembly Majority leader Yerima Ladan Gaule, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Ethical Orientation Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde represented by the Director Culture Hassan Alabura lauded Kamo Community for putting up the Cultural event noting that such events promotes unity as well as educate the young ones the basics of their cultural heritage.
In a vote of thanks, District Head of Kamo Alh Nuhu Adamu expressed gratitude to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yaya for his unwavering support to Kamo Community pledging his people’s continued support. He equally thanked all lovers of Kamo making it to the occasion.
Highlights of the event includes; Match pass by various clans, traditional dances, traditional wrestling, cutting of a Unity Cake and fund rising for the building of a museum in Kamo Community.
