The Department of Accounting Federal University of Kashere in collaboration with the Office of the Account General of Gombe State has organized the first North East Regional Accounting Conference with the theme: Public Finance Management Reforms and its Implications for the Integrity of Public Sector Accounts.
This was according to a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the university Mrs. Janet Ibrahim Ezekiel.
Declaring the conference opened the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Kashere Prof. Umaru A. Pate said the conference was timely, expressing optimism that it will address issues of public finance management in the country.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Santaya Larit Kela, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the department for the successful hosting of the conference.
In a keynote address, Gombe State Accountant General, Dr Aminu Yuguda, represented by Muhammad Kulani, reiterated the state government’s commitments toward improving public finance management and accountability.
In a good will massege the President of ICAN Dr Innocent Ockwosa represented by Professor Innaso Ejioma, said the organization is doing a lot in promoting transparency and accountability in financial management.
In their presentations, the lead paper presenter and the discussant Professor Kabiru Isa Dandago and Professor Ahmad Modu Kumshe emphasized the need for reforms and its implementation for effective financial management and reducing corruption.
They advocated the need for the establishment of Debt Management Offices in all states of the North East for effective records and accountability.
Participant of the conference includes Accountant Generals, Auditors Generals, Federal Pay Officers as well as Professors and Bursars of Tertiary Institutions within the North East sub region.
