The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament, popularly known as Majlis-Shura, has called on Muslim faithful to fully support efforts aimed at addressing insecurity that led to the loss of lives and destruction of property in Nigeria.
The Organizing Secretary of the Parliament, Alhaji Yahaya Tanimu, made the call during a one-day workshop on Leadership and Good Governance for imams, islamic scholars, islamic organizations, and other critical stakeholders.
The workshop held at the Conference Hall of the Bauchi Central Mosque, aimed to enlighten participants on the role of religious leaders in promoting peace and unity.
Alhaji Tanimu described the Muslim Parliament as a group committed to fostering peaceful coexistence among communities and emphasized the need for unity in confronting issues such as banditry and kidnapping in Northern Nigeria.
He noted that many people in the northeast sub region have faced numerous challenges due to absence of effective security structure, which continues to endanger lives and properties.
Alhaji Yahaya Tanimu also revealed that the Office of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence has shown support for the initiative, recognizing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and national security.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Baba Tanimu of Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi, commended Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South at the National Assembly and chairs the Red Chambers Committee on Security and National Intelligence, for taking proactive measures in this regard.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Muslim Parliament, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Jahun, stated that the workshop was designed to empower participants to preach the importance of conflict resolution in Islam and promote peaceful coexistence.
The Participants who were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state pledged to apply the knowledge gained and extend it to their respective communities for sustainable peace and unity.
