The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has commenced the technical bidding process for its 2025 capital projects as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across the North-East.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, presided over the technical session and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in project execution.
Speaking during the event, Professor Ahidjo, who was represented by the Director of Administration, Idris Umar, appreciated all participating companies for their interest in partnering with the institution.
He explained that the bidding exercise was conducted in line with due process requirements under the Federal Government’s procurement guidelines, aimed at ensuring fairness and value for public funds.
“The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital remains committed to delivering quality healthcare services to the people of the North-East through transparent and result-driven projects,” the CMD stated.
According to him, the hospital will continue to prioritise projects that directly enhance patient care, staff welfare, and medical research.
Several construction firms, both local and national, submitted bids for various components of the 2025 capital projects, which cover infrastructure upgrades, equipment supply, and facility rehabilitation across departments.
The technical bidding marks the first stage of the procurement process, to be followed by financial evaluation before final contract awards.
Those present at the session included the Head of Department, Engineering Services, Engr. Modu Gana; Deputy Director, Procurement, Malam Suleiman Buba; Head of Department, Finance, Bukar Yarema; ICPC representative, Abdullahi Dawami; Chairman, ACTU (UMTH), Prof. Farouk Buba; Head of Department, Public Relations, Mrs. Anaso Justina; representative of the Legal Unit, Barr. Fatima Aliyu; Chief Procurement Officer, Shattima Babagana; as well as representatives from the Code of Conduct Bureau and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), among others.
Theresa Umale Sunday, who spoke on behalf of the 36 bidding companies, commended the Chief Medical Director and his management team for the transparency and fairness demonstrated throughout the exercise. She described the process as encouraging and a reflection of UMTH’s commitment to accountability and due process in project implementation.
UMTH, one of the largest tertiary healthcare institutions in Northern Nigeria, has over the years undertaken major capital projects aimed at expanding access to specialised healthcare for communities affected by conflict and displacement in the region.
