With profound sorrow yet immense gratitude, I pen this tribute in honor of a man who was far more than a President to me Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was my mentor, my role model, and my boss.
Serving under his administration first as a Personal Assistant and later as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo I had the rare privilege of witnessing President Buhari’s leadership up close.
I saw not only the impact of his policies but also the quiet strength and integrity that defined his character.
President Buhari embodied discipline, integrity, and selflessness. At a time when leadership is often marred by personal ambition, he stood out as a man of principle simple in lifestyle yet profound in conviction.
His commitment to Nigeria was unwavering. Every decision he made, every directive he issued, and every policy he endorsed bore the unmistakable mark of someone who consistently placed the nation above self.
To me personally, he was a compass, a guiding light in the often murky waters of public service.
He taught that leadership is not about noise, but about impact; not about promises, but about principles. His style was quiet yet commanding, steady yet powerful. He led with calm determination, always deliberate, always focused.
As a mentor, President Buhari impressed upon me that integrity is not circumstantial it is a way of life. His work ethic, discipline, and unshakable sense of national duty left an indelible mark on me, as they did on so many others who had the honor of serving under him.
As a boss, he was fair yet firm. He gave us room to grow, the opportunity to serve, and the encouragement to do so with sincerity. His trust in our abilities empowered us not just as public servants, but as individuals striving to make a difference.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, in the reforms he championed, and in the values he upheld. Nigeria has lost a statesman; I have lost a father figure in public service.
May Allah grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, and may his life continue to inspire those of us who believe in a better, more just, and principled Nigeria.
Rest well, Baba. Thank you for everything.
