The Senator representing Gombe South, Distinguish Senator Anthony Siyako Yaro has officially tendered his membership resignation from the People’s Democratic Party PDP.
In a letter he personally signed and addressed to Gelengu Ward PDP Chairman, dated 18th April and tittled LETTER OF RESIGNATION FROM PDP, Senator Yaro cited leadership irregularities as basis for his decision.
“I write to inform you of the withdrawal of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediately effect. This is basically due to leadership tussles of the party at the national level that leads to uncertainty with the pending Supreme Court Appeal”.
Announcing what he described as hard decision, the lawmaker who’s the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, expressed gratitude to PDP for giving him the chance.
“In doing this, it took excruciating pains to arrive at this decision. I therefore remain indebted and ever grateful for the opportunity and privilege the party gave me, which enables me to successfully contest election in 2023 to represent the good people of Gombe South Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. l am highly indebted to the party and wish it well in its efforts to repair the damage inflicted.
I thank my great party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for giving me the platform to successfully contest and win the Gombe South Senatorial District seat. However, the Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-9 clearly states that there is a time for everything. Therefore, the time has come for me to formally inform you of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) owing to the leadership tussle and plethora of legal matters.
I am highly indebted to the PDP, and I earnestly pray that these issues be resolved in the shortest possible time”.
The letter added that Senator Yaro’s decision was a unanimous choice of his people, family and political stakeholders.
“After due consultations with my family, political associates, friends and constituents, we took this painful decision to explore fuller realization of democratic objectives for the benefit of our people.
I hold in high regard the friendships, collaborations, and experiences I have shared with colleagues and leaders in the PDP. I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunities the party afforded me over the years and I wish it continued success in its future endeavors. Please accept the assurance of my highest regards”.
Though the letter did not clearly outline the next political direction of the senator, current affairs analysts and political observers believed that Senator Yaro may soon join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
