
…As Commission Reiterates Commitment to People’s Welfare
The Gombe Operational Office of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has again distributed relief materials to victims of flood disaster in Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area of the State.
The flag off of the distribution exercise comes barely 24 hours after a similar engagement was carried out in Dukku Local Government Area of the State.

The relief items presented to the flood victims at the Council Secretariat of Yalmatu Deba included; 300 bags of rice, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 100 gallons of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 200 pieces of plastic mats and blankets.
Speaking at the event, the NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Goni Alkali empathized with victims of the flood disaster in communities of Maikaho, Tsando and Deba areas.

Represented by the head of Gombe Operational Office of the commission Rufai Lawan Baba Manu the Managing Director reminded the flood victims that the relief materials is not compensatory but a gesture aimed at providing succour.
While commending the cordial working relationship existing among the NEDC, Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the representative of the Commission’s Managing Director noted that the synergy account for the swift response and timely distribution of the relief materials to the flood victims in Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area.

He further reiterated the commission’s commitment to the welfare of the people especially those in dire need of assistance, describing Yalmatu Deba as one of the front line local government areas bearing the commission’ intervention program.
Earlier speaking the Executive Secretary Gombe State Emergency Management Agency Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi explained that through the help of Yalmatu Deba Emergency Management Committee, his agency wasted no time in carrying out an on the spot assessment of the situation.

He reveal that it was the assessment by SEMA and the eventual transmission of its findings to the NEDC that prompted the interventionist organization to provide the relief materials to the victims.
Abdullahi praised the NEDC and National Emergency Management Agency NEMA for working with the Gombe State Government to provide succour to the people of the state especially those in distress.

The Chairman of Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area Abubakar Hassan Difa who was visibly happy by the turn out of events, described the relief materials provided by the NEDC as a soothing comfort to the flood victims.
He remarked that the council will compliment the effort of the commission by voting resources to assist the victims of the flood and windstorm disasters.
While commending Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his friendly policies on the environment, the chairman however appealed to people to take special interest in clearing water channels to avoid possible incident of flood.
