…Commission Rebuilds Gombe Central Medical Store, Constructs Trauma Center, ENT Facility at FTH Gombe

…Constructs Over 30 Classrooms, Trains 600 Teachers

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has reiterated its commitment to complementing the Gombe State Government’s efforts in executing development projects that directly impacts on the life of the common man.

This was disclosed by Gombe State Acting Coordinator of the commission, Rufai Lawan Babamanu during an interview with journalists in his office.

Babamanu stated, “NEDC is undertaking construction work to rebuild the Gombe Central Medical Store, which was damaged in a fire incident. The commission is investing over 500 million naira to rebuild the store, emphasizing its crucial role in improving healthcare delivery in the state.

The Commission is also building four new maternity clinics in selected areas across the three senatorial zones of the State.

According to Mr Rufa’i, the communities selected include Yolde in Balanga, Billiri, and Bogo, Akko Local Government Area.

In addition, NEDC has intervened in the education sector by training over 600 teachers in various teaching skills. “The commission plans to train more teachers to enhance human resources and improve teaching efficiency”, he noted.

To address economic hardship, NEDC recently distributed foodstuff to over 200 vulnerable people in Nasarawa Ward, Gombe LGA.

The commission is also renovating several schools to improve their physical infrastructure and learning environment. These schools include Government Secondary School, Malam Sidi, and Ahmadu Gombe Secondary School, Jeka Dafari, among others

The Acting Coordinator also revealed that, NEDC has organized sports competitions in Gombe State covering football, table tennis, long tennis, and basketball. Where he said, prizes will be awarded to the best schools, and scholarships will be offered to talented students.

“A trauma center and ENT facility are under construction at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe. We also supplied 6000 snake vials to the Kaltungo Snake Hospital. In addition, the Gombe Abba-Kirfi road is nearing completion”, he noted.

The commission has sofar installed solar lights in four places at the State Specialist Hospital Gombe, demonstrating its commitment to supporting development and improving the lives of people of Gombe State.
