As part of activities to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gombe State Command, has outlined its achievements in combating drug-related offences from January 2025 to date.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the agency’s rehabilitation centre in Gombe on Monday, the command’s Public Affairs Officer, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, Orpha Gabriel, said the command arrested 260 suspects — comprising 257 males and 3 females — within the period under review.

She disclosed that 39 convictions have already been secured, while 93 cases are still pending in court.

Gabriel added that the command seized a total of 68.78 kilograms of illicit substances, including 48.30 kg of Cannabis Sativa and 20.48 kg of psychotropic substances.

On rehabilitation efforts, she revealed that 13 male clients were admitted for counselling and rehabilitation at the centre, out of which 10 have been discharged after completing treatment, while 3 are still undergoing care.

The command also offered brief interventions to 113 persons — 109 males and 4 females — through short-term counselling and sensitisation sessions.

While highlighting the agency’s commitment to reducing drug abuse and trafficking, Gabriel called on members of the public to support the fight by reporting suspicious activities and encouraging victims to seek help.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is celebrated globally every June 26th to raise awareness on the dangers of drug misuse and promote collective action against its spread.
