NAWOJ, UNICEF Prioritizes Menstrual Hygiene in Rural Bauchi

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter, in partnership with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Bauchi Field Office, has launched an initiative to prioritize menstrual hygiene and women’s empowerment in rural communities.

According to Hajiya Rashida Yusuf, NAWOJ State Chairperson, the initiative is part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day, marked globally on March 8th.

Hajiya Rashida emphasized the importance of advocating for personal hygiene among young girls.

The Ward Head of Tirwum, Ahmad Mohammad pledged to mobilize and educate women on girls’ education and menstrual health, to overcome challenges affecting local women.

In recognition of her humanitarian services, the Ward Head conferred a traditional title of ‘Wakiliyar Sadarwan Tirwum’ on Hajiya Rashida Yusuf.

The one-day sensitization workshop aimed to raise awareness among adolescent girls on improving their health status and livelihood.

The workshop trained 21 adolescent girls on making local sanitary pads and managing menstrual health.
