…Says Ultramodern Abattoir, International Livestock Market Will Save Us from Risk and Economic Losses

In a show of support for Gombe State’s growing livestock transformation efforts, the leadership of the Jauro Abare Livestock Sellers Multipurpose Cooperative Society has hailed the visionary investments of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, in the livestock sector, especially the landmark projects under the Gombe Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project.
During a courtesy visit to the Gombe L-PRES State Coordination Office, the cooperative’s Chairman, Ibrahim Shuaibu, led members of the group to pledge their support to the project and express readiness for active collaboration.
Receiving the delegation, the State Project Coordinator of Gombe L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, commended the cooperative for its initiative and commitment to organized livestock business.
Prof U. B. Abubakar described the visit as timely and reflective of L-PRES’s inclusive vision.
“I am impressed by your organization and formal registration as a cooperative. This is exactly the kind of stakeholder partnership L-PRES thrives on. From today onward, your members will be considered active stakeholders in all relevant aspects of our interventions,” Prof. Abubakar assured.
He noted that L-PRES, in partnership with the Gombe State Government, is currently implementing legacy projects such as the Ultramodern Abattoir and the International Livestock Market, purposely designed to address systemic inefficiencies in the livestock value chain.
“Today, local producers take livestock to faraway markets, exposing themselves to financial loss, physical risk, and reduced profit. These projects will localize value addition and protect our people from avoidable hardship,” he emphasized.
The SPC explained that the Agro-Livestock Development Zone comprises modern facilities such as dedicated modern livestock market with sections for cattle, small ruminants, and poultry. An Ultramodern abattoir with fully automated meat processing system, veterinary laboratories, fire and safety units, banking services, motels, and tanneries for hide and skin processing among others.
“All animal by-products – from hooves and horns to intestines and blood – will be processed into commercially viable products. This is the type of vision His Excellency, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, CON, brings to the table, not only for Gombe but for the Northern region at large,” Prof. Abubakar added.
He assured the cooperative that L-PRES is committed to empowering local players and will continue to prioritize organized groups like theirs in its implementation strategy.
In his remarks, the chairman of the cooperative, Malam Ibrahim Shuaibu praised L-PRES’s inclusive leadership style and applauded the giant strides of Governor Inuwa Yahaya in repositioning the livestock sector for sustainability and profitability.
“We are here to identify with this remarkable project and pledge our unflinching support. The Ultramodern Abattoir and International Livestock Market will save us from the risks and losses we face in transporting animals to other parts of the country. These are truly game-changing initiatives,” he stated.
Shuaibu described the projects as “interventions whose impacts will outlive generations,” and called for the continued inclusion of cooperative members in future project activities.
The visit underscores the growing recognition of Gombe L-PRES as a flagship initiative for stakeholder-driven, technology-led livestock development—aligning with the strategic vision of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and the national Livestock Transformation Agenda.
