The Gombe State University (GSU), Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Dukku campus, has matriculated over 200 pioneer students into four academic departments; Architecture, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying and Building Technology.
Representing the Visitor to the University and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the state.
He expressed optimism about the rapid growth of the university and charged the institution’s management to remain resilient and forward-thinking.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Acting Vice Chancellor Gombe State University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, commended the state government’s continued support to the institution.
He stated that the university is more determined than ever to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also morally upright and innovative.
He added that, “the GSU is actively enhancing international partnerships to further strengthen its academic offerings”.
Professor Yauta also revealed that over 4,000 students of GSU have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a federal government initiative aimed at supporting students’ educational pursuits.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Dukku Local Government, Alhaji Adamu Muhammed Waziri, expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya for his foresight in establishing a university faculty in Dukku, noting that the move would inspire more residents to pursue higher education.
The Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulkadir Rasheed II, also commended the state government for its efforts in bringing higher education closer to the people.
He further appreciated the federal government for its recent approval to establish a Federal College of Education in Dukku.
A statement signed and made available to Jewel Times by the Information Officer Office of the Secretary to the State Government Joshua Ɗanmalam said the event marks a significant milestone in the state government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to quality education and optimize the use of existing infrastructure.
The Dukku University campus was developed from the previously abandoned proposed college of Nursing in the area.
In addition to the Dukku campus, the State Government has also established a Faculty of Agriculture in Malam-Sidi, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen Gombe State University’s academic capacity and increase admission opportunities for prospective students in Gombe State and beyond.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by academic staff, traditional rulers, government officials, and the elated pioneer students.
