Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to look into the possibility of rewarding the state through increase in allocation to compensate its incredible performance on social and economic indicators at national and sub-regional levels.
This was according to a press statement signed and made available to Jewel Times by the Information Officer, office of the Secretary to the State Government, Joshua Ɗanmalam.
The statement said Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this when he granted audience to members of the commission led by the federal commissioner representing Adamawa State Salamatu Bala Mohammed on Thursday at the Government House Gombe.
Represented by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njoɗi, the governor observed that the state has been coming top in so many indices, advising the commission to look at the suitability of using such indicators as a yardstick for allocation to sub national level.
He said his administration enjoys the cordial working relationship existing between Gombe State and the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), emphasizing that the state stands ready to keep the partnership going.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and federal commissioner representing Adamawa State in the commission Salamatu Bala Mohammed said as part of its constitutional responsibility, the team is in the state to monitor the disbursement of funds to the state and local government areas to ensure that sub nationals are not short change in what is due to them.
She recalled that states and Local government areas have approached the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal with complaint of been under paid explaining that such statutory visits to states enable the commission to better appreciate the challenges and how to tackle them.
She disclosed that the exercise will look at disbursement to Gombe State from 1999 to 2021 which will enable the commission know if the state has been receiving what is due to her.
While expressing gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his good policies, the federal commissioner said the commission will continue to ensure justice and fairness in the allocation of resources to sub nationals.
Present during the courtesy call were; the State Head of Civil Service Ahmed Kassim Abdullahi, the commissioners of Finance Mohammed Gambo Magaji and his Higher Education counterpart Mohammed Shetima Gadam and the State Accountant General Aminu Yuguda among other government officials.
