The Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA) has arrested a site engineer for violating state development laws.
The engineer who is a supervisor for the construction of a recreational park at Brave Road behind Gombe International Hotel, was arrested for destroying about 50 metre culvert for construction of an access slab into the recreational park.
While investigating, GOSUPDA discovered that no official approval was secured by the owners of the proposed park.
People found on the site have cooperated with GOSUPDA, during a routine inspection tour by its officials lead by the Executive Chairman of the authority Alhaji Bappayo Samanja Mauɗo on Saturday.
Speaking to newsmen, the Executive Chairman sent strong warning on defaulters, especially those developing structures be it residential or commercial without official clearance from the authority.
He maintained that “We are all out to protect the law and the interest of the state under the leadership of Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as he is always giving out his very best in transforming Gombe to a model city in Northern Nigeria”.
Mauɗo encouraged people of the state to always reach out to the authority for clearance before embarking on any development activity, noting that GOSUPDA is out to ensure town planning laws and standards are maintained.
The park has already settled the three million Naira fines imposed on it by the authority.
