Gombe South: Senator Yaro Returns to PDP, Cites Disregard for Democratic Ideals within APC

Posted on May 9, 2026 by Jtimes

In a significant political turn for Gombe South, Senator Anthony Siyako Yaro has officially announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending a period of political uncertainty while reaffirming his commitment to the mandate of his constituents.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to Jewel Times, Senator Yaro addressed the “political uncertainty” of recent weeks, offering a sincere apology for any confusion caused by his initial move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He clarified that his departure from the PDP was a “misguided” attempt to seek better collaboration at the national level, a path he has now abandoned after concluding that the APC leadership failed to respect the democratic will of his people.

“I realized that a platform that does not honour the will and mandate you gave me cannot truly serve you,” Senator Yaro stated, noting that he perceived “unfairness” in the APC’s selection arrangements which he deemed contrary to democratic ideals.

He said his decision to return to the PDP followed extensive consultations with family, political associates, and elder statesmen.

Senator Yaro emphasized that the feedback from the grassroots across local governments was the ultimate deciding factor in his return to the platform that originally championed his vision for regional development.

He remarked that “This decision was not made lightly, the PDP remains the party that first believed in our collective dream for a greater Gombe South – a dream of better roads, functional schools, accessible healthcare, and empowered youths and women.”

Urging his supporters to view the move as an act of “courage and accountability” rather than instability, Yaro insisted that his primary loyalty remains fixed on the interests of his constituency.

He expressed a renewed readiness to contest and defend his seat under the umbrella of the PDP.

“Let us move forward together, let us prove that the people of Gombe South are not pawns in any political chess game; we are the architects of our own destiny”. Senator Yaro declared.
