Gombe State Governor and Chairman Northern State Governors’ Forum Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has commissioned a model children school in Sum community of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, constructed by the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
This was according to a press statement signed and made available to Jewel Times by the Information Officer SSG’s Office Joshua Ɗanmalam.
The governor who was the chairman and special guest of honour at the occasion explains that his administration has been keeping tap on the impressive activities of POWA under the leadership of its president and wife of the Inspector General of Police Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun.
Represented by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njoɗi, the Governor equally witness a ground breaking ceremony, fund raising and empowerment program, made possible by the National President of POWA Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun who is the daughter of the soil of Sum Community.
Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi had while delivering the Governor’s address at the occasion, expressed gratitude to the National President of POWA for placing premium on education especially at a time when performance indicators relating to the sector are so discouraging citing the recent JAMB results which recorded a poor performance.
He commended the effort of the wife of the Inspector General of Police noting that, as the chairman of the Nothern Governor Forum, they will continue to support the POWA President being one of their own and futher challenged her to do more by establishing such model schools in all the 19 Nothern States.
He called on similar organisations and well to do individuals in the society to borrow leaf from the Police Officers Wives Association for the educational department of the nation.
While emphasizing his administration’s commitment to quality education at all levels, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya task the association to furnish his office with the bill of quantities relating to the continuation of the expansion of the school project for possible intervention.
Earlier in an address, the POWA National President Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun noted that the commissioning of the model school marks a significant milestone into a more efficient, effective and results oriented POWA.
She said the school is part of POWA’s core values in action which demonstrate the association’s support to the family of those who risk their lives in service to the nation while contributing to the provision of social amenities to communities across the country.
The National President of POWA further noted that the school embodies a vision for a brighter future where children can be moulded to achieve their dreams of becoming policy makers, technocrats and drivers of the economy.
There were goodwill messages from eminent Nigerians including the representative of the Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed.
Highlight of the event was the official Commissioning of the Model School, ground breaking/Fund-raising for the construction of a secondary school and empowerment of women & youth of Sum Community by the POWA President.
