The Federal Government and the Gates Foundation have commended Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, along with the President of Global Development at the Gates Foundation, Mr.Chris Elias, stated this when they paid a courtesy visit on the governor at the government house, Gombe.

The visit was part of ongoing engagements following the adoption of a sector-wide approach to implementing the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative NHSRII, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister highlighted Gombe’s significant improvements in healthcare indicators, such as increased skilled birth attendance, immunization rates, and modern contraceptive use.

He attributed the successes to Governor’s leadership and the 82% increase in healthcare budget allocation since 2023.

They praised Gombe’s healthcare progress and emphasized the Gates Foundation’s interest in supporting and learning from the state’s achievements.

Responding, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, acknowledged past challenges in the health sector and outlined his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure, manpower, and healthcare access.

Key initiatives include retaining indigenous doctors, recruiting health workers, expanding medical training institutions, and seeking private-sector collaboration to boost local drug production.

He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining partnerships with the Federal Government and the Gates Foundation to further improve healthcare delivery in Gombe State.

The minister’s entourage was accompanied by the Chief Medical Director Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi and others.
