The Centre for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) has urged youths, women and traditional rulers to take active roles in promoting peace and reconciliation in conflict-affected communities of Borno State.
The Executive Director of CATAI, Abubakar Sadiq Mu’azu, made the call in Bama during a dialogue organised by the centre in partnership with JAMI AL-HAKEEM, with support from the UNDP–Peace Building Fund (PBF) project.
The event, which marked this year’s International Day of Peace, brought together youths, women, traditional leaders and community groups to reflect on the importance of dialogue and peaceful coexistence in communities that have suffered from years of insurgency.
Mu’azu said the initiative was aimed at fostering unity and giving visibility to the role of youths and women in local peacebuilding.
Activities at the dialogue included panel discussions, cultural performances and interactive sessions, which allowed participants to share experiences and propose solutions to challenges facing their communities.
Organisers added that the programme would serve as a platform for sustained dialogue and inspire similar grassroots peacebuilding actions across the North-East.
