The Bauchi State Youth Parliament has adopted a number of resolutions and proposed bills aimed at promoting youth inclusion, economic empowerment, innovation and social reforms across the state.
The resolutions were adopted during a legislative sitting presided over by the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Idris Musa, at the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
Among the key resolutions adopted was a motion seeking the implementation of 40 per cent youth inclusion in policy decision-making processes, with emphasis on female representation. The motion was presented by Hauwa Ibrahim of Misau Ciroma Constituency.
The Parliament also considered a bill seeking the establishment and regulation of youth-led gubernatorial debates in Bauchi State. The bill, sponsored by Hon. Idris Musa Hamza of Dass Constituency, is aimed at encouraging political participation and civic engagement among young people.
Lawmakers further adopted a motion on strengthening youth empowerment through sustainable agriculture and poultry farming for both rainy and dry season activities. The motion was presented by Hon. Mukhtar Aminu of Ganjuwa East Constituency.
Also adopted was a motion for the establishment of the Bauchi State Innovation and Enterprise Fund to support youth entrepreneurship and innovation. The motion was sponsored by Yusuf Nasir of Zungur/Galambi Constituency.
In a move to promote inclusiveness, the Parliament received a bill seeking the creation of a special seat for Persons with Disabilities in the Youth Parliament. The bill was presented by Magaji Jibril of Lere Bula Constituency.
The sitting also featured a motion of urgent public importance on the rising rate of drug abuse among youths in Bauchi metropolis and surrounding communities. The motion, presented by Hon. Mu’awiya Haruna Jaja of Bauchi Central Constituency, called for immediate intervention to address the growing challenge.
Another motion adopted focused on the establishment of a comprehensive youth skills acquisition and empowerment programme in Sakwa Constituency, presented by Hon. Jibrin Ibrahim.
Speaking during the sitting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Idris Musa, commended members for their commitment to issues affecting young people in the state.
He also appreciated Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his continued support for youth development and empowerment, particularly for giving young people greater opportunities and responsibilities in governance.
According to the speaker, the resolutions adopted reflect the parliament’s commitment to building a more inclusive and opportunity-driven society for youths across Bauchi State.
