In a bid to promote a violence-free learning environment in schools, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Young Leaders Network, has organized a one-day Media Round Table Discussion on Education for journalists in Bauchi State.

The event, held at the State NUJ Secretariat, aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the National Policy for Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools among journalists.

Northern Nigeria faces significant challenges in ensuring safety and security in schools. The region has witnessed several attacks on educational institutions, resulting in loss of lives and disruption of learning.

The media plays a crucial role in highlighting these issues and promoting solutions.

Chairman of the Union, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, commended the organizers for the unique collaboration between the NGO and journalists on safety in schools.”

This interaction provides an opportunity for journalists to understand the mission of NGOs while covering their activities,” he said.

The event featured papers on fact sheets on school safety and security in Nigeria and the role of the media.

The Journalists were equipped with knowledge to effectively report on education and safety issues in schools, promoting a violence-free learning environment in Bauchi and beyond.
