Bauchi Emirate Council Promises to Address Issues of Gender Based Violence

The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, has expressed his Emirate’s readiness to collaborate with the Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development to combat violence against women and girls across the state.

 

Represented by Ajiyan Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Abubakar Attahiru, the Emir gave the assurance during an advocacy visit by officials of the Ministry and UN Women.

The visit formed part of a broader campaign to raise awareness and drive action against gender-based violence in the state.

 

He reaffirmed the emirate’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, stressing that traditional institutions play a crucial role in preventing abuse and fostering safe communities.

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Babban Tanko, said the campaign is aimed at mobilizing stakeholders to safeguard the lives and rights of women and girls.

 

The commissioner urged traditional leaders to join hands with the government and international partners in protecting victims and ensuring justice.

 

She also called on journalists and civil society organizations to amplify the campaign and help change harmful cultural narratives that perpetuate violences.
