The Chairman of the North East Consultative Forum, Barrister Abdullahi Jalo, affirmed that the relationship between Nigeria and Niger will endure indefinitely, despite the diplomatic issues that have arisen between Nigeria and ECOWAS under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Jalo made this statement in response to allegations from Niger’s Military ruler, General Abdulrahman Tchiani, who claimed that the Nigerian government had permitted France to establish a military base in Nigeria after being expelled by Niger’s military government.

He clarified that the Nigerien military ruler has suggested plans to allow France to set up a military presence in Nigeria due to the alleged personal ties between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the French government.

Barrister Abdullahi Jalo dismissed these allegations as unfounded, asserting that there is no French military base located within Nigeria.

He further stated that Nigeria, unlike Niger, which was colonized by France, will not tolerate such colonial domination.

According to him, the established mutual relationship between Northern Nigeria and Niger will remain strong and persistent, despite the ongoing diplomatic tensions between Niger and ECOWAS, led by Nigeria’s current administration.

Additionally, the Chairman advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to gradually address the issue of tax reforms by launching an advocacy and awareness campaign to educate Nigerians about the importance of these reforms.

He also commended Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for effectively transforming the state within a short timeframe.

He however called on the governor to improve on social welfare and human development as contained in the 2025 appropriation bill as assented by the governor.

Abdullahi Jalo urged the residents of Gombe to support the current administration’s initiatives to improve the well-being and socio-economic status of the citizens.
