From Yunusa Isa, Gombe

The Government Science Secondary School Gombe 1979 set has called for the relocation of some government institutions occupying important parts of the school to give room for more developments.

The call was made by chairman of the set Alhaji Abubakar Umar Gorofi during the alumni’s 50th anniversary at the school premises.

He said the school’s development is hampered due to encroachment and some key sectors being occupied by government institutions like the state’s college of nursing and midwifery and the state’s specialists hospital.

The chairman advised that “When substantive sites are provided for these institutions, we want them to quickly relocate and allow GSS Gombe to develop to its full potentials”.

While appreciating God Almighty for the life and opportunity to witness the golden jubilee, Abubakar Gorofi said the set was admitted in November 1974 with 79 students but celebrated the golden jubilee without 32 members who have answered the call to glory.

The chairman assured of the set’s continuous support to the alumni in all areas of development.

In his remark, the Principal GSS Gombe Malam Abubakar Sadik Sulaiman appreciated the 1979 set for its unity and support to the school, particularly in the areas of provision of borehole, medical clinic, drugs and the rest of others.

While encouraging members of the set to enroll their children in the school, the principal appealed for more supports from the union.

He said the set is blessed with key public figures including Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and a lot of others.

In his address, the State’s Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya who was the special guest of honour, appreciated members and leadership of the set for the reunion, assuring of his continued support to the development of the school.

Represented by his chief of staff Abubakar Inuwa Kari, Governor Yahaya encouraged the set to invite some students of the school in their subsequent reunions to showcase them the essence of unity, togetherness and the importance of giving back to the alumni.

During the golden anniversary, certificates of honour were presented to outstanding personalities including former principals and teachers.
