The Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA) has held an emergency meeting with traditional rulers and key stakeholders to combat the illegal sale of plots and encroachment surrounding the ACReSAL erosion control fencing project.
The authority has issued a stern warning that it will take decisive action against any individuals attempting to compromise the integrity of the critical infrastructure.
During the meeting, the Executive Chairman of GOSUPDA, Alhaji Bappayo Samanja Maudo, emphasized that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has authorized the immediate demolition of any structures encroaching upon the project’s perimeter.
He reminded stakeholders that the government had already provided compensation for all affected properties before construction began.
“Whoever attempts to rebuild, reclaim, or tamper with the land or fencing around this area shall be dealt with immediately,” Maudo warned.
He further mandated that all future developments must maintain a setback of at least 10 to 15 meters from the fence to prevent indiscriminate building and protect the infrastructure.
The GOSUPDA Chairman also issued a direct caution to community leaders regarding the unauthorized sale of land designated as project setbacks.
He stated that the authority would no longer tolerate the illegal allocation of these areas for residential or commercial use, noting that such actions undermine essential urban planning efforts.
The Project Coordinator for ACReSAL, Dr. Sani Adams Jauro, echoed these concerns, urging traditional rulers to increase vigilance within their domains.
He highlighted that the erosion control project is vital to public safety and urged communities to demonstrate their appreciation for the Governor’s intervention by strictly adhering to land-use regulations.
In response, the traditional leaders in attendance expressed their full support for the government’s directive.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the District Head of Bogo, Alhaji Baddi Galadima, and the District Head of Mallam Inna, Kwairanga Abubakar, pledged to intensify public enlightenment campaigns.
They vowed to hold ward heads accountable, promising that any local leader found facilitating the illegal sale of these lands would face severe consequences, including potential removal from their position.
The meeting was attended by seven District Heads, including those of Tabra, Kundulum, and Tunfure, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring compliance with state urban planning laws to foster orderly development across Gombe State.
