The Centre for the Study and Resolution of Domestic Violence (CERSDOV), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has successfully completed a three-day training on advocacy methods and tools for women-led Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The training focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), child marriage, gender-based violence (GBV), and gender equality.

The event, held at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Gombe State, brought together diverse women-led NGOs working within local communities.

In her closing remarks, the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Asma’u Iganus, commended CERSDOV for its commitment to empowering women in Gombe.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Modidi Shelpidi, she expressed appreciation for UNFPA and the Norwegian Government’s support in organizing the training.

She emphasized that the Ministry’s doors are always open for similar initiatives, not only for women but also for men, as domestic violence affects both genders.

She further noted that selecting Gombe as the training location was highly commendable and urged participants to apply what they had learned within their respective groups and communities.

Director of the CERSDOV Prof Hauwa Yusuf Evelyn represented by Dr. Hussaini Momoh Lawan, a facilitator of the training, emphasized that gender issues are relevant to both men and women.

He encouraged participants to apply their new knowledge and educate others in their communities.

He also thanked the Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development for providing a supportive environment and the resources needed for a successful program.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ahmed from the National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS) in Dukku Local Government, expressed gratitude for the knowledge gained.

She assured CERSDOV and its partners that they would pass on what they learned, particularly on issues like girls’ education and early marriage.

A total of 24 women from various groups across the 11 local government areas of Gombe State participated in the training.
