Gombe State’s drive to unearth and develop raw basketball talent received a significant boost with the staging of a specialized coaches clinic organized by the Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA).
Anchored on the theme “TRIPLE THREATS,” the program brought together stakeholders, facilitators, and aspiring coaches to establish a robust foundation for youth sports development across the state.
The initiative looks beyond traditional drills and court performance, focusing instead on building competence, character, and commitment as essential pillars for nurturing future champions and responsible citizens.
The President and Founder of ABA, DC Aliyu Lucky Abubakar said “A successful coach must possess three essential strengths: competence in knowledge, character in conduct, and commitment to people,” emphasizing that effective mentorship extends far beyond teaching technical skills like shooting and dribbling.
Participants engaged in intensive sessions covering modern coaching methodologies, player development frameworks, discipline, and the strategic use of sports as a tool to combat social vices among youths.
The organizers noted that the clinic forms an integral part of a broader grassroots talent hunt designed to discover hidden potential in local communities and provide athletes with the necessary structure, training, and opportunities to succeed.
Reflecting on the broader impact of the initiative, local participants expressed profound gratitude for the platform, noting that the insights acquired will significantly enhance their ability to identify and groom future stars for Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
The media was also commended for its pivotal role in amplifying grassroots sports, driving community engagement, and generating vital visibility for emerging talent.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation to all attending coaches, honoring their dedication to advancing basketball development from the ground up.
