The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Gombe State Command has recorded 38 road traffic crashes between December 15, 2025, and January 15, 2026. The accidents involved 74 vehicles and affected 345 people; of those, 218 sustained various degrees of injury, while 38 lives were lost.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Route Commander Janet Kassa, on behalf of State Sector Commander Samson Kaura, and made available to Jewel Times.
The statement attributed most of the crashes to human error and mechanical faults, including overloading, overspeeding, driver fatigue, and driving under the influence of drugs. Other contributing factors included worn-out tires, brake failure, and a lack of proper lighting, safety equipment, or road signs.
The Command urged motorists to avoid overloading, dangerous driving, mobile phone use, driving against traffic, and any other activities that distract attention from the road.
Reminding residents that safety is a personal responsibility, Kassa warned that motorists “must stop distracted driving.”
The Command expressed its unwavering commitment to reducing road crashes to the barest minimum.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring its mandate of safer roads is achieved in Gombe State through regular patrol operations, clearing road obstructions, rescue services, and public enlightenment at both motor parks and worship centers,” the statement read.
The period spanning the end of year and the start of a new year is known for increased mobility due to heightened human activity — developments that often come along with consequences for human life and economic stability.
