The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) on Thursday held the financial bids opening for its 2025 capital projects, in line with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2002 aimed at promoting transparency and credibility in government procurement.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Professor Modu Kagu, declared the exercise open at the hospital’s boardroom.
Speaking during the event, Prof. Kagu said the exercise was conducted to ensure transparency, fairness and accountability in the award of contracts for the hospital’s capital projects.
He explained that the objectives of the bid opening were to identify and confirm the companies and individuals who submitted bids, verify that each submission met the stipulated requirements, and to conduct the process in a fair and open manner.
Prof. Kagu reiterated UMTH’s commitment to upholding due process and best practices in project implementation, assuring that the hospital would continue to align with federal government guidelines to ensure value for money and efficient service delivery.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Director of Procurement of the hospital, Malam Suleiman Buba, assured that all companies that submitted their financial bids would be given equal opportunities, adding that the process would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2002.
In attendance were the Director of Administration, Idriss Omar, Head of Engineering Services, Engr. Modu Ali Gana, Head of Finance, Alhaji Aliyu Tukur; representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mallam Abdullahi Dawami; and Chairman, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU,UMTH), Prof. Faruk Buba, Assistant Chief Procurement Officer, Alhaji, Mohammed Bulama.
Others present included the Head of Public Relations, Mrs. Justina Anaso, Barr. Sa’ad Umar (Legal UMTH) , Chief Procurement Officer, Malam Babagana Shattima, Chief Procurement Officer Dahiru Hamawa(PA to CMD) a representative of Gaji and Partners, Engr. Yusuf Ali, a representative of the Code of Conduct Bureau; and representative from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
