In a significant effort to foster social inclusion and alleviate the impact of economic hardship, the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has distributed essential food items and cash grants to persons living with disabilities (PWDs) across Bauchi State.
The intervention, strategically timed for the 2026 Ramadan season, reaffirms the organization’s commitment to improving the welfare of the state’s most vulnerable residents during the holy month.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the BWSO, Malam Muktar Jarmajo, presided over the distribution exercise, noting that “This initiative is specifically designed to cushion the effects of prevailing financial pressures on our brothers and sisters with disability”.
Jarmajo explained that the festive and fasting periods often place an increased burden on low-income households, making external support vital for maintaining the dignity of the less privileged.
He emphasized that the organization’s mission transcends seasonal charity, focusing instead on long-term empowerment programs that promote self-reliance and economic independence for persons with disabilities.
Beyond the distribution of 10kg bags of rice, Mallam Jarmajo announced a cash donation of ₦500,000 to assist the community with transportation and logistics.
In a notable step toward structural inclusion, he also pledged an employment slot specifically for a woman with disability, highlighting the group’s focus on gender-equitable humanitarian service.
To ensure the aid reached its intended targets, the Chairman issued a stern call for fairness and transparency, warning that “BWSO monitors would be deployed to oversee the distribution process and ensure compliance among disability group leaders”.
Stressing the importance of collective action, Jarmajo urged philanthropists, development partners, and well-meaning individuals to complement the efforts of the BWSO in supporting vulnerable groups.
“This is a social responsibility initiative aimed at ensuring that disability does not lead to social or economic exclusion” , he added.
The gesture was met with high praise from the beneficiaries. Speaking to newsmen, Muktar Umar Malam Goje and Fatima Abdulrahman expressed profound gratitude, describing the intervention as a timely lifeline that would significantly ease the burden on their families during the sacred month of Ramadan.
