The Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA) has warned residents to refrain from giving money to anyone at building sites, including staff of the agency, and instead make all payments directly at the GOSUPDA office to receive receipt or at State internal revenue office through Treasury Single Account through electronic payment.
The Executive Chairman of the agency, Bappayo Samanja Maudo, gave the warning while briefing journalists on the activities of the authority.
He stressed that “Anyone found wanting in such illegal transactions—both those giving and receiving money at construction sites—will be dealt with in accordance with the law”.
Samanja revealed that the agency recently arrested some impersonators who had been moving around construction sites, collecting money from unsuspecting residents under the guise of representing GOSUPDA.
He also cautioned against destruction of public infrastructure such as streetlights and culverts, whether through negligence or deliberate acts, warning that “violators will face strict penalties”.
The chairman further advised residents against erecting structures on waterways or tampering with government properties, emphasizing the need for public cooperation in supporting the state’s development agenda.
Samanja disclosed that preparations are at an advanced stage for the commencement of house numbering and street naming across Gombe metropolis.
He explained that “The initiative will improve accessibility, enhance security, and make it easier for emergency services to locate specific houses and streets”.
He urged residents to comply with all government directives to ensure the success of the exercise.
The chairman also called on eligible residents, particularly those aged 18 and above, to register for their Permanent Voter Cards with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that only three days remain before the registration exercise closes.
He encouraged those seeking fresh registration or renewal to act promptly.
