The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Gombe State Chapter, has suspended its Labour and Civil Society Secretary, Lukman Adamu, over alleged misconduct, disloyalty, and anti-party activities.
The decision was taken during a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Gombe, where party leaders reviewed reports concerning Adamu’s recent conducts.
According to an official suspension letter, the party found that Lukman Adamu engaged in actions that violated the party’s constitution and established leadership structure. These include organizing and participating in meetings without the approval or consent of the state chairman—an act described as a serious breach of SDP’s disciplinary code.
The statement noted that “Such actions have the potential to create division, confusion, and disunity within our party” , stressing that “All members are required to conduct party affairs through recognized and authorized channels as stipulated in the DSP constitution.
Following deliberations, the committee invoked relevant provisions under Articles 20(3), (4), (5), and (6) of the SDP Constitution and approved the immediate suspension of Adamu from all party activities pending further investigation.
“As a result, you are hereby suspended from all party activities with immediate effect, pending further investigation and possible disciplinary action by the appropriate party organ,” the statement read.
During the suspension period, Adamu is prohibited from presenting himself as a member or official of the party in any capacity and is barred from attending party meetings or functions.
The party also directed him to submit a written explanation within 14 days, stating why further disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
“The party remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, and unity, and expects all members to uphold the integrity and constitution of the SDP,” the statement added.
The suspension letter was signed by the State Chairman, Sani Abubakar Dada Wagga, and the State Secretary of the party.
Copies of the letter were forwarded to the party’s National Secretariat, zonal leadership, local government chairmen, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office Gombe, as well as security agencies including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The meeting that ratified the decision was attended by key party executives and stakeholders across the state.
Those present include Muhammad Ali (Gombe LGA Chairman), Ambassador Molta Lamido (Billiri LGA Chairman), Ibrahim Memi (Kaltungo LGA Chairman), Abdulkadir Gambo (Yamaltu/Deba LGA Chairman), Mustapha Yarima (Funakaye LGA Chairman), Sunday Umar (Balanga LGA Chairman), Yahaya A. S. Tafida (Nafada LGA Chairman), and Alhaji Buba I. Hashidu (Dukku LGA Chairman).
Others in attendance were Aliyu Ahmad (Gombe LGA Youth Leader), Musa Maccido (State Treasurer), Jones (State Secretary, Kaltungo LGA), Rose Lamodo (State Women Leader), and Abubakar Muhammad, who documented attendance at the meeting.
The development underscores the SDP leadership’s firm stance on party discipline and internal cohesion, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of future elections in Gombe State.
