Following the 2024 flood prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in which 5 local government areas in State are said to be susceptible to flood disaster, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have embarked on a sensitization campaign to the affected LGAs.

According to a press statement signed and made available to Jewel Times by the Information Officer SDGs office Joshua Ɗanmalam, the LGAs include Kwami, Dukku, Yalmatu-Deba, Gombe and Funakaye.

The SEMA sensitization campaign comes at the heels of an earlier training organized by the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA in conjunction with SEMA held on the 12th of June 2024.

To this end, the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency led by its Executive Secretary Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi Bakoza had on Thursday embarked on an enlightenment tour to the flood risk local government areas.

During the campaign, the Executive Secretary met with critical stake holders to at the local government areas to include council officials, traditional and religious leaders, members of civil society organisations and representatives of persons with disability.

Issues bordering on flood prevention and mitigation topped the agenda at the various meetings where the Executive Secretary of SEMA Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi stressed the need for resident not to use water channel as refuse dump sites among other agendas.

He also commended the State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for placing premium on the environment and giving the agency the necessary support to succeed.

The team visited Kwami and Funakaye Local Government, and will soon visit Dukku, Gombe and Yamaltu Deba in its subsequent engagement.
