The member representing Kaltungo Shongom Federal Constituency Honourable Obed Paul Shehu has organized a three day training workshop for 60 youths and women from the constituency on dry season farming to boost food security, self reliance and economic prosperity.
Speaking during the training in Kaltungo, Obed said the training is part of his campaign promises to encourage women and youth in the two LGAs.
Represented by his Personal Assistant Hon. Doma Dangwaram, the member noted that “This training is not the first of its kind, and we shall ensure its continuity for the upliftment of our constituents” .
He charged the beneficiaries to step down the knowledge gained to others in their localities.
In their goodwill messages, Deputy Chairman PDP Kaltungo Local Government Umar Layo, his Secretary Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi koli, Secretary PDP Shongom Hon Richard Aminu and Senior Legislative Aide to Speaker House of Representatives Alhaji Garba Badagoshi commended the foresight of the member for organizing the training, describing him as best member Kaltungo Shongom ever had.
They charged the trainees to focus much attention on the lessons to grab key messages there in for personal and societal benefits.
On his part, the chief training facilitator from the Federal College of Horticulture DaÉ—inkowa, Dr Abubakar Wakili, engaged participants on modern methods and best practices in dry season farming.
He took the trainees through site selection, farm clearance, seed selection, watering, weeding, herbicide, insecticide and fertilizer application, harvesting, storage and marketing.
He said “Dry season farming is simple, controllable and highly rewarding than rainy season farming”.
The facilitator encouraged the participants to embrace emerging farming practices and technology for commercial agriculture.
Some participants Halima Bulus and Solomon Bentelan appreciated Hon Obed for the training, assuring to step the knowledge down to other farmers.
While noting that the knowledge will help them boost their farming activities, the trainees appealed to other politicians to emulate Hon Obed in deepening democratic dividends to grassroots.
