The Special Assistant to the Gombe State Governor on Donor and Development Partners Coordination, Dr. Ishiyaku Ibrahim Babayo, has been conferred with the traditional title of Makaman Cikin Gida Na Farko of the Funakaye Emirate, becoming the first to hold the revered position.

The title, one of the oldest and most respected in the emirate, is traditionally reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional loyalty to the throne and service to the community.

At the turbaning ceremony held in Arawa Ward, the Sarkin Fada Babba, Shuaibu Adamu, described the title as a senior leadership position within the emirate structure, responsible for overseeing internal home affairs and representing the Emir on crucial matters.

He said Dr. Babayo’s appointment was based solely on merit, character, and his consistent commitment to community development.

“His Highness considered Dr. Ishiyaku’s selfless service to the community. Many aspire to such titles, but he did not seek it. His Highness recognised his worthiness and chose to honour him,” he stated.

The Sarkin Fada further explained that the Makaman Cikin Gida also serves as Ceremonial District Head and plays a central role in the distribution of palace resources, management of domestic affairs, and coordination of traditional responsibilities, including the administration of royal gifts and entitlements.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Ishiyaku Ibrahim Babayo expressed deep gratitude to His Highness, the Emir of Funakaye, Yakubu Muhammad Kwairanga IV, and the entire emirate council for the confidence reposed in him.

“This is a profound honour. We will continue to serve our people with greater dedication and commitment. This title is a trust, and we will uphold it by working for the progress of our community,” he said.

Dr. Babayo urged the people of Funakaye to sustain their support for the emirate, stressing that development and peace thrive where unity exists.

He pledged to focus on advancing education, healthcare, and youth empowerment; key areas he described as essential for building a self-reliant and productive society.

He also assured that he would work closely with other palace chiefs and the emirate council to foster progress and elevate the status of Funakaye Emirate and Gombe State.

Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the family and well-wishers, Malama Ardo Chindo thanked the Emir and the emirate council for recognising Dr. Babayo’s contribution to society.

He expressed confidence that the new Makaman Cikin Gida would continue to justify the honour through dedicated service.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, Saidu Muhammad Fawu, senior government aides, members of the emirate council, community leaders, and numerous well-wishers.
