The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commenced the renovation of dilapidated public schools across the state in a bid to address longstanding challenges affecting the basic education sector.
The Director School Services of the Board, Mallam Zuhairu Usman, disclosed this while leading journalists on an inspection tour to some of the schools undergoing renovation.
Mallam Zuhairu explained that “the exercise is aimed at replacing damaged roofing structures and rehabilitating deteriorated school facilities to create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning” .
He expressed concern over the poor culture of maintenance of school infrastructure, noting that many facilities collapse due to neglect, windstorms, and acts of vandalism by unpatriotic individuals.
He therefore called on affected communities to take ownership of public school facilities and support government efforts to improve basic education in the state.
The Director School Services further assured that SUBEB would sustain the renovation exercise and also provide furniture to affected schools.
He warned that the board would no longer tolerate acts of vandalism, particularly the removal of school desks and other public property by community members.
During the inspection tour, our correspondent Jibrin Hussaini Kundum, observed that renovation work was progressing smoothly in several schools, including Iliya Adamu Primary School in Bondut, Dass Local Government Area, Jir Primary School, as well as Birshin Fulani Primary School and the Government Junior Secondary School.
In their separate remarks, the Ward Head of Birshi, Alhaji Ahmad Lawal, and the Headmistress of Iliya Adamu Primary School, Mrs. Na’omi Joseph, commended the Bauchi State Government and SUBEB for the initiative.
They pledged their commitment to safeguarding the facilities and supporting efforts to restore the lost glory of basic education in the state.
They expressed optimism that the renovation initiative would yield positive results and significantly enhance the learning environment for pupils and students across Bauchi State.
