Bauchi SUBEB Arrests One for Alleged Stealing of School Chairs

The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has confirmed the arrest of one Umar Abubakar for alleged stealing of school desks at Yelwan Kundum Primary School in Bauchi Local Government Area.

SUBEB also pledged to continue working with security agents and community leaders towards safeguarding school properties from thief and vandals in the state.

The permanent secretary of the board Alhaji Abdulmumini Jibrin made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen on the allegation in his office.

Jibrin said the arrest of the suspect was made by security agents after a report from the community leaders, assuring of the board’s readiness to ensure justice prevail to serve as deterrent to others.

The Permanent Secretary warned criminals against stealing school properties pointing out that measures had been put in place to apprehend and punish the perpetrators according to law.

On her part, the Bauchi Local Government Education Secretary Hajiya Talatu Yakubu, commended the effort of Kundum Community for the arrest, while calling on others to emulate with the sole aim of safeguarding government properties

She also commended Tafawa Balewa Estate Police Outpost for their swift response that led to the apprehension of the alleged suspect.

Earlier, the Village head of Kundum Mallam Nuhu Idris and ward head of Yelwan Kundum, Nasiru Hussaini, alleged that the suspect – one Umar Abubakar who is an indigene of the community came with a Boxer J5 by 9PM, and took three desks from the school before he was arrested and beaten by youth of the area and later took him to the police station.

According to them, the arrest followed measures put in place after several incidences of theft at the school by unknown persons.

Mallam Nuhu Idris and Nasiru Hussaini appealed to the state government to ensure that the suspect face full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others with similar mission in the state
