…As Commissioner Leads Initiative to Build World-Class Mining Institute in Alƙaleri
The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a central working committee to spearhead the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS), envisioned as the first specialised mining institute in the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Mohammed Maiwada Bello, who performed the inauguration, commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, for his visionary commitment to transforming the mineral sector.
Bello said “This institute is designed to become a legacy institution that will drive professional training, research innovation and technical excellence across the mining value chain”.
He highlighted Bauchi State’s abundant mineral deposits and reaffirmed the government’s determination to equip citizens with modern skills for exploration, extraction, processing and environmental management.
According to him, “MIABAS will bridge critical knowledge gaps, enhance local content and create significant opportunities for youth employment and sustainable economic development”.
The Central Working Committee consists of seasoned professionals, academics, technocrats and sector specialists drawn from strategic MDAs and top institutions.
Members include representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Office of the SSG, Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, BAMSEL, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Housing and Environment, the House Committee on Mines, MIREMCO, ATBU, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geosciences among others.
Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Sulaiman Mato described the step as pivotal to unlocking Bauchi’s mineral potential and praised the expertise of the committee members.
In a vote of thanks, House Committee Chairman Hon. Bello Sarki Jadori assured that the committee would justify the trust placed in them and expressed gratitude for the confidence of Governor Mohammed and Commissioner Bello.
