The Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry of Education, has pledged continued priority to education infrastructure and learning materials in public schools, as part of efforts to implement the National Policy for Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools.
The Commissioner for Education, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, gave the indication while leading a monitoring and evaluation team to inspect some public schools across three local government areas of the state.
He explained that the routine monitoring exercise was to ascertain the condition of the learning process to ensure access to quality education for both teachers and students in Bauchi North and Central Senatorial Districts.
Abdulkadir Ibrahim noted that the exercise would no doubt improve students’ enrollment and retention across public schools.
Speaking to our Education Correspondent, Jibrin Hussaini Kundum, at Government Science Secondary School, Gamawa, the Commissioner announced that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, has commenced the construction of a perimeter fence around the school to safeguard facilities and protect students’ lives from potential attacks.
He added that Government Science Secondary School, Gamawa, was established in 1982 during the administration of the late Governor Abubakar Tatari Ali, stressing the need for renovation and construction works in the school.
At Government Girls Secondary School, Hardawa in Misau Local Government Area, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with students’ enrollment and the school feeding programme.
The monitoring team also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gamawa, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adamu Abdulkadir, to brief him on measures being taken by the Ministry of Education, including the fencing of Government Science Secondary School, Gamawa.
Some of the schools visited by the team include Government Science Secondary School, Darazo, Government Science Secondary School, Misau, Government Girls Secondary School, Hardawa, Government Technical College, Gamawa and Government Science Secondary School, Gamawa.
