People with disabilities, particularly members of the Bauchi State Association of the Deaf and Blind, have been urged to change their mindsets by embracing entrepreneurial skills to improve their economic status.

This was made by the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO), Mallam Muktar Jarmajo, during the second phase of distribution of food items and seven hundred thousand naira cash to persons with disabilities across the twenty local government areas of Bauchi State.

Muktar Jarmajo, who was represented by the Chief Coordinating Officer of BWSO, Mallam Sha’abdin Bello Zalanga, observed that “many persons with special needs have the intellectual capacity to become whatever they aspire to be, but often distance themselves from entrepreneurial activities”.

He explained that the rationale behind the distribution exercise was “To cushion the effects of the current economic hardship, particularly during the Ramadan period when many persons with disabilities resort to hawking and street begging”.

Sha’abdin Zalanga stressed the need for collective efforts by the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO), to reshape the future of all clusters of persons living with disabilities across the state.

He also urged them to see their condition as an act of God and remain determined to improve their lives through skills acquisition.

According to him, “BWSO has targeted about 227 persons with disabilities to benefit from the intervention.

He noted that persons living with disabilities deserve special attention, hence the decision to commence.

Speaking with journalists after receiving their packages, Abubakar Ibrahim, Abdullahi Jibrin Maidawa, Maryam Lukman and Altine Inuwa expressed appreciation to philanthropist Dr. Bala Mai Jama’a Wunti and BWSO for the support.

They prayed for Almighty Allah to reward and fulfill Dr. Bala Wunti’s political ambitions.
