Vulnerable residents in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State have received relief materials through a humanitarian outreach facilitated by the Executive Director (Operations) of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Abdussalam Ibrahim Ahmed.
The support initiative, held at Ibrahim Ahmed Academy in Kumo, provided essential items including foodstuffs, clothing and other household materials to disadvantaged members of the community, particularly persons living with disabilities, orphans and other vulnerable groups.
The distribution was supervised at the local level by the program’s Akko Local Government Coordinator, Lukman Hasi, who explained that the exercise formed part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship among the most needy.
According to him, community consultations and collaboration with local stakeholders guided the identification of beneficiaries to ensure the items reached deserving individuals.
“This intervention by the Executive Director Operations of NEDC, Alhaji Abdussalam, reflects a deep concern for the welfare of vulnerable members of our society,” Hasi said.
He added that the gesture had already made a positive impact on many households within the area.
“We are grateful to Alhaji Abdussalam Ibrahim Ahmed for extending this support to our communities. The happiness seen among the beneficiaries today shows how meaningful this assistance is to them,” he noted.
The event attracted several dignitaries including traditional rulers, security personnel and community representatives who witnessed the distribution and commended the initiative.
Among them was the District Head of Sambo in Kumo, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammad Atiku, who praised the sponsor for remembering the less privileged in the community.
He urged the beneficiaries to make responsible use of the items provided.
“This kind of support is highly commendable. We sincerely appreciate Alhaji Abdussalam for his generosity and commitment to the welfare of our people,” he said.
“I advise those who benefited from the items not to sell them but to use them to support their families and improve their living conditions,” the district head added.
Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities were also among the beneficiaries of the outreach.
Speaking on behalf of the clerics, Malam Muhammad Hajjun expressed appreciation to the NEDC executive for the timely intervention.
“We are sincerely thankful to Alhaji Abdussalam for this thoughtful gesture,” he said.
“At a time when many families are experiencing economic difficulties, this assistance will help many people. We pray that Almighty Allah continues to reward and strengthen him to do more for humanity.”
Some beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise also conveyed their gratitude, noting that the items would help ease some of their daily challenges.
One of the recipients described the initiative as a sign of compassion toward the less privileged.
“We are truly thankful to Alhaji Abdussalam for remembering people like us. This support will help many families and bring relief to our homes,” the beneficiary said.
The palliative distribution forms part of broader humanitarian activities championed by Alhaji Abdussalam through the Northeast Development Commission to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable populations and support community resilience across the region.
