Right of Way: GOSUPDA To Embark on ‘Operation Remove Your Property’

Posted on March 25, 2024 by Jtimes

The Gombe State Urban Planning Development Authority (GOSUPDA) has announced a special operation to remove illegal structures built on rights-of-way in the state capital.

This initiative was announced by the Executive Chairman of the authority, Bappayo Samanja Maudo, after the authority conducted its weekly routine inspection in the state capital.

Maudo expressed disappointment at the growing trend of residents encroaching on public spaces.

“We have seen an alarming number of people rebuilding structures or reclaiming land that was previously compensated for, specifically along newly constructed roads. These designated setbacks are crucial for public projects like streetlight installations and water pipelines, ultimately benefiting the entire community”, he stated.

The Executive Chairman emphasized GOSUPDA’s commitment to maintaining order, announcing a special operation starting soon which aim to remove illegal structures built along major roads within the metropolis.

“This operation is essential to ensure public safety, improve social welfare, and restore orderliness,” the Executive Chairman declared. “We will begin by removing all temporary structures illegally built on right-of-way areas and setbacks along major roads, starting from City Gate to Liji and extending across the city.”

GOSUPDA urged residents with structures on right-of-way areas or drainage channels to remove them immediately to avoid demolition. “And those who built within permitted setbacks but haven’t obtained approval from GOSUPDA are advised to visit its office to seek authorization and make necessary payments”, he urged.

“GOSUPDA is committed to ensure proper infrastructure development and a safer, more organized urban areas in Gombe State inline with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s vision of a modern Gombe State”, the Executive Chairman affirmed.
