Jtimes…As L-PRES National Coordinator Extols Governor Inuwa’s Efforts To Develop Livestock Subsector in Gombe State
Amidst food security crisis in the country, Gombe State Government in collaboration with L-PRES Project has unveiled plans to construct modern abattoir, renovate veterinary clinic and revive the erstwhile abandoned Gombe Poultry Production Unit for improved livestock productivity and commercialisation towards sustainable food security while ensuring socio-economic growth and development of the state.
This was disclosed by Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya when he received a team from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) and the World Bank on a courtesy visit to his office.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau said Gombe State is ready to collaborate with any well meaning individual or organisation towards bettering the lives of the people.
He explained that since the inception of the incumbent administration, government has been making deliberate efforts to create a good atmosphere to woo private investors and businesses into the states as government alone cannot carter for the needs of the people.
He cited the establishment of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park equipped with modern facilities and world-class infrastructures and the first Gombe investment summit held in 2022 among others as some of the efforts made by the government to create a peaceful atmosphere and suitable business environment and to attract investors into the states.
He appealed to the L-PRES and the World Bank to leverage the enormous potentials of Gombe State, especially along the livestock value-chain, and help exploit them for the overall development of the state and the nation.
Speaking earlier, the National Coordinator, L-PRES, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar said the Gombe State L-PRES office was among the first six states to have received their first disbursement to commence implementation in the last quarter of 2023 courtesy of the commitment of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
He commended the Inuwa-led Administration’s efforts towards improving livestock production especially the revitilisation of Wawa Zange Grazing Reserve, Mass Vaccination against trans-boundary animal diseases, the establishment of Industrial Park and the proposed modern abattoir, expressing delight that the L-PRES project in Gombe is aligning and operating in the right environment.
In his remarks, the Task Team Lead of the World Bank delegation, Manievel Sene intimated the Deputy Governor they were very impressed with what they saw at Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, maintaining that the facility will bring tremendous industrial prospects and complement the L-PRES Project in the state.
He assured the state government of their unalloyed support towards ensuring the success of the L-PRES and other World Bank sponsored projects in the state.
In his remarks, Gombe State L-PRES Coordinator, Prof Usman Bello Abubakar said the park will serve and complement the implementation of component 2.1 of L-PRES Project which focus on business development along the livestock value-chain especially when the proposed modern abattoir is established.
The visiting team was earlier at Muhammad Buhari Industrial Park, Dadinkowa where they were taken round the facility to see for themselves the state+of-the-art infrastructures put in place for proper functioning of the park.
Briefing the delegation, the Chairman Interim Management Committee of the Park, Bashir Nuhu Aliko explained that the project is nearing completion. “So far we have received more than 400 applications from investors who are requesting for allocation of land to build industries and businesses”, he noted.
The team also visited Gombe Abattoir which is currently under renovation by L-PRES, the proposed site for Modern Abattoir, the Gombe Poultry Production Unit at Tashan Dukku and the Veterinary Clinic at Gombe Cattle Market where L-PRES built a modern veterinary laboratory and plans to renovate and upgrade the clinic.
