The Executive Chairman of Billiri West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Elder Yila Maidawa, has thrown his full weight behind the region’s fast-growing movie industry, describing it as a vital tool for preserving the Tangale heritage and empowering young people.
Hon. Maidawa made this known during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tangalewood Movie Production, Mr. Muazu Garba, at the chairman office.
Receiving the filmmaker, Hon. Maidawa rendered and expressed strong support for the craft industry and charged Mr. Garba to stay true to the mission of promoting Tangale tradition and culture through films.
He urged the producer to deliberately engage the youth in movie production, noting that such involvement would help uncover raw talent and build valuable skills.
He also explained that the main reason Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahya created LCDAs was to see that governance is taken closer to the People for youth to get means of livelihood and tangalewood is making that a reality.
“The film industry is more than entertainment; it is a platform for telling our own stories and preserving what makes us who we are,” the chairman said.
He added that “I encourage you to continue using your craft to project our culture, and to involve our young people so they can develop skills and talents that will benefit them and the society.”
The chairman also advised the Tangalewood boss to always seek authentic and accurate historical records before producing cultural movies, noting that such would help create a reliable archive for future generations.
“We must not allow our history to be misrepresented or lost. Always get the true story of our culture so that our younger generation will have something genuine to learn from,” Hon. Maidawa added.
In his response, Mr. Muazu Garba appreciated the chairman for his warm reception and invaluable support.
He promised to adhere strictly to the chairman’s advice and assured him of the production company’s commitment to promoting the Tangale narrative with integrity and professionalism.
Mr. Muazu also thanked the Gombe State Governor for his development projects in and around Gombe State, especially with the creations of the LCDA that has brought people like Elder Maidawa as the first Executive Chairman of Billiri West.
He noted that Tangalewood will continue to support this Administration through films that will protral Tangale, and Gombe State at large to the world.
“We are deeply grateful for your encouragement and support. We will continue to produce films that reflect our culture and create opportunities for our youth,” Mr. Garba said.
He further disclosed that the production of the much-anticipated movie, “LAU PINUN SORI”, is progressing well and is expected to be completed by September 2026.
The meeting was seen as a significant boost for the creative sector in Billiri West and a clear signal of the council’s readiness to partner with homegrown initiatives that celebrate culture and drive youth development.
