…Warns Defaulters

The Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA) has called on individuals, groups, organizations and political associations that have erected billboards, posters and banners along major streets and public places within Gombe Metropolis to remove them on or before Monday 15/06/2026.
The warning was issued by the Executive Chairman of GOSUPDA, Alhaji Bappayo Samanja Maudo, during a telephone interview with our reporter.
He said “The authority has observed with concern, the increasing rate of indiscriminate placement of billboards, posters and banners on major streets in different parts of the state capital”.
According to him, the practice constitutes a violation of the Gombe State Urban Development Law and undermines the efforts of the state Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to maintain a clean, orderly and aesthetically appealing environment.
Alhaji Bappayo explained that “The authority would no longer tolerate actions that contravene the state’s planning regulations, therefore all unauthorized structures and advertisements must be removed before Monday 15 June, 2026.
The chairman also warned vehicle and motorcycle owners against washing their vehicles on roads, streets and other public places.
He noted that such activities damage roads, block drainages and contribute to environmental pollution.
Similarly, he cautioned bricklayers, builders and construction workers against mixing cement, sand and other building materials directly on roads and public walkways.
He said the practice often leaves roads damaged and creates unnecessary inconveniences for road users and residents.
He further advised contractors and property owners to ensure that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved planning standards and environmental regulations.
He emphasized that development must be undertaken in a manner that promotes public safety and urban beautification.
Alhaji Bappayo warned that any individual or group found violating the law after the expiration of the deadline would face appropriate legal action.
He said enforcement teams would be deployed to monitor compliance and ensure strict adherence to the directives.
The GOSUPDA chairman therefore appealed to residents of Gombe metropolis to cooperate with the authority in its efforts to maintain a clean, organized and modern city, stressing that urban development is a collective responsibility that requires the support of all citizens.
